The Method behind the Treatment
Tony Hanley, Massage Supervisor - 26th June 2012
As a guest of the LakeHouse Spa, you have the opportunity to experience our many amazing body treatments. Did you know that each treatment is uniquely designed with a specific purpose? There are various methods to achieving the purpose of the comment elements in each of our treatment.
Dry Brushing: Dry brushing provides a very mild exfoliation but its main purpose is to help stimulate the lymph system. The lymphatic system plays a substantial part in immunity and fluid drainage. The system does not have a "pump" of its own so its circulation depends on outside forces, such as muscle contractions or massage.
Exfoliation: The purpose of exfoliation is to remove impurities and dead skin cells. This method results in the skin looking radiant and feeling softer. It also allows the skin to absorb more moisture and enhances the effects of skin care product. There are two types of exfoliation: manual and chemical. Manual exfoliation uses granules, like oat, salt or sugar, to smooth away the dead skin cells. This type of exfoliation in body treatments also stimulate the lymphatic system and promote relaxation. While chemical or enzymatic exfoliation the chemical is applied topically to remove dead skin and stimulate new skin cell growth. The enzyme or chemical must stay on the skin for a certain amount of time to allow it to activate, which spas often incorporate a wrap to allow time for this to occur. It is recommended that after an exfoliation treatment, the skin must be moisturized to prevent the new skin cells from dehydrating.
Wraps: A body wrap treatment incorporates an application to the skin and cocooning in blankets. This method allows the skin to warm and the pores to open. In doing so, you receive more benefits from the product applied. The purpose of the wrap depends on the product being applied. The benefits range from detoxifying, drainage, sliming, hydrating or soothing tired muscles. For most guests, being wrapped up also creates a sensation of deep relaxation.
When designing a treatment the spa combines these methods in order to provide the most relaxing and rejuvenating experience for our guests. If you are seeking a detoxifying treatment, try our Deep Sea Wrap and Bath, or if the Pear and Fig Body Polish for the ultimate in hydration and total body peel.
