After finally deciding to start exercising, you’re eager to embark on a fitness routine.  However, before lacing up those shoes and breaking a sweat, you have questions: How much?  How often?  What works?  What’s best? 

In response, you begin a search for reliable recommendations.  Your physician prescribes a 30-minute walk every day for good health and that seems possible.  A friend claims that vigorously working up a good sweat for at least 360 minutes each week insures…

Many people work out to lose weight and/or to improve their appearance.  And while those are certainly valid reasons and almost certain outcomes, there are other benefits.

Regular aerobic exercise:

• Strengthens your heart and the cardiovascular system
• Improves circulation and respiratory function
• Boosts energy levels so you can do more with ease
• Increases endurance
• Lowers blood pressure
• Improves muscle tone, strength, balance and flexibility
• Strengthens bones

Muscle mass begins to decline in our 30s and keeps decreasing unless we lift weights or do some form of resistance training regularly.  The bad news: losing muscle tissue affects how we look, how our bodies function and how we feel.  Plus, when we lose too much muscle, we become more vulnerable to injuries and find weight loss more difficult. 

The good news: all of these negative effects can be reversed!  Resistance training strengthens our bones, develops muscle tone, boosts energy…
