Find Your Inner ROXY!

Tracy York, General Manager - 22nd July 2013

Meet Roxy!  Roxy is a 13 year old border collie that belongs to my next door neighbors. ROXY IS AWESOME!  Roxy loves to swim and swim she does, over and over and over again.  Every day Roxy waits until her human parentslook at her and say, “Go Roxy!” and off she goes!  She runs down to the dock, splashes in the water, swims a small circle, exits back out on the dock, splashes back in the water, swims a small circle, exits back out on the dock and repeats it over and over and over again.  I am pretty sure I hear that puppy squeal with happiness every time she splashes in the water.  She loves it.  And I must admit, she makes me smile every time I see her.  Here is a girl who is getting up in years yet she lives life to the fullest while still understanding and accepting her limitations.  She can’t wait to go swimming, is clearly the happiest puppy on the face of the planet when she splashes in, yet realizes she is a bit older and doesn’t need to set speed or distance records, so she just swims her small circle and repeats.

(If you haven’t taken a moment to look at her picture and see that sweet, gray face and watch the video of her swimming, please do – it is much more entertaining than anything I could write!)

We could all stand to learn a few things from Roxy!  I know I am reminded that every time I think I can’t do something, I think of Roxy.  When I am too lazy to get up or am tempted to complain or sit out on an activity because my knees hurt, I think of Roxy.  She shows me every week that I can find joy in the smallest things.  I don’t have to run marathons or cycle for hours, I just need to splash in and swim!
I guess this just goes to show that dogs CAN teach some old humans new tricks!

Be well,
Tracy
